I AM A CAMERA

I am a camera. Well, maybe not a camera, but I am the extension of one. I am a photographer. I am proud to call myself a photographer. But, what does that actually mean?

I've been taking photos since I was a small child. My grandfather was a photographer and an amazing artist. Through him, I found my love for photography. He encouraged me and mentored me to become the person I am today.

First photos I took with my new camera. 1974

When I look around me, I see things that many others might not. I see how they would look through my lens and in doing so, I capture it and present what was going through my head when I took the shot. I've been told I have an eye for photography, whether it is doing portraits or taking pictures of what is going on around me.

But, when did that become the stone age?

Everyone nowadays has their smartphone via Iphone, Ipad, Android, etc. We are inundated every day with photos on Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter being taken from a phone and uploaded instantly to the internet. From that, more and more people are having their friends take their photos from their phones and shooting their weddings, portraits, graduation cards and special events happening in their lives.

But are they getting the pictures they really want? Their friends will shoot for free so why not?

A photographer understands lighting, shadows, drama, innovative ideas so that they don't have to spend all their time in Photoshop correcting everything.

A photographer has years of learned experience either by schooling or the school of hard knocks. A photographer understands that multiple shots need to be taken to make sure you get that "good" one.

A photographer wants to commemorate that special moment in time with pictures that convey emotions.

A photographer has the love, passion and drive to make sure that what is seen through the lens is what you will receive in your photo.

A photographer has worked and sweated to save and scrimp to get the equipment they want and need to create their images. They spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars throughout their career to perfect their craft.

Those who have regular jobs are paid for the work they produce whether it is the CEO of a large company or working at a fast food restaurant. But there are many people who don't realize that being a photographer is our job. It is our love and passion, but it is also what puts food on the table for our families.

Sometimes we're asked to do something for free. Would you do that to a chef? Would you go into a store and ask that same question?

I am a photographer. I live and breathe in images. I see the world through my lens. I enjoy creating special moments for people.

I am a photographer.

Yes, I charge for my services, but it goes back to that old adage. You get what you pay for.

What are you doing with your wedding dress?

Wendi Ryan of About Face and I are promoting the newest trend in photography coolness... You may have heard about it- TRASH THE DRESS..ROCK THE FROCK... Its time to take out that old wedding dress you know your daughter will never wear and no one will ever want and rock it one more time in an artistic piece either in the elements, in the water, doused with paint, splashed with fondue-whatever you can dream we can do! Divorced? Even better! What a great way to rock a pair of scissors and mud or black paint! Of course, the glam hair and face!

If you are interested, drop me a line at my email nbrown@wishnikphotography to set up an appointment. Wendi is a fantastic makeup artist with years of experience. Like her page here http://www.facebook.com/pages/About-FACE/142321425821294 .

I Wanna Know!

So, I just wanna know, what exactly do people want as photographs?

Is it flowers?

Something vintage?

Maybe they want something big.

Or, something a little country:

What makes you want to say, you have to have it and hang it on your wall?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm in LOVE, I'm in LOVE!

I am sooo in love with my new camera. Although it's a bit heavier than my XTi, I will put up with it because of the fact it takes such gorgeous pictures! I have been out every day playing with it and learning more and more about it!

This is just a small version of the flower. It looks amazing at full size!

I have tried the movie feature, but unfortunately when I upload it to Studio 14, I get sound but no picture and when I upload it to CS4 After Effects, I get picture but no sound. Gotta figure out a way to merge the two or find out on either why one works and not the other. But, HD video? Ya gotta love that!

Can't wait to do portrait shoots with this!

It's All Black and White

I've decided that Mondays will be my POETeam (Photographers of Etsy) days. Every Monday I will pick a color and feature photos from our illustrious POE Team!

Since this is my first POE post, I will choose my favorite colors which are black and white. But since I was never known to conform, each of these prints has a little POP of surprise!

Enjoy!

Whole Lotta Updates!

Man, where does the time go? I'm continuing to take photos for my 365 Photo Challenge. The problem? I have not been very good on my uploading. Instead of inundating the whole post with photos, I will split it into two!

Here they are! The past couple of weeks.

Day 45 - 46

Well, all headshots can't be great, right? There's always a blooper in there somewhere!

For my Day 46 photo, I just figured these were hanging around. Turns out they were pretty interesting to shoot!

Day 44/365 Too cold to play

Hanging outside in the 37 degree weather, which is below zero for Texans! Snapped this of a play area. None of the kids wanted to go outside! It was just too cold!

Day 43/365 It's better than nothing!

Well today was extremely cold for my taste, so I did not get out and about to take a picture.

BUT, I did take photos inside of some of my soaps! I have some new ones coming out soon and they needed product photos. For those who like chocolate, you will enjoy these new soaps!

Enjoy my picture of the day!

Day 38/365 Holes

Did you ever wonder what your life would be like if you had gone down another path? I don't really think about that. I've always said that my choices in life have made me who I am. It's fun and exciting to go down paths you've never been. Sometimes the outcome may not be what you want, but you always learn something along the way. Each of our paths is like a hole in the fabric of life. Sometimes the lessons are hard, but who ever said life was easy?

Day 37/365 Self Portrait

I've never liked being in front of the camera. It is very rare that you will find me in any of the thousands of pictures that I have at home. So, I decided to do my own personal self portrait!

In years to come, my family can say, oh yeah, I remember her!

Day 34 - 36/365 Backtrack

Whew! It's hard keeping up with the blogposts when life gets in the way! I've been good at getting my photos of the day. The hard part is uploading them and getting them out there!!! Now, it's time for me to catch up with my posts!

I've had quite a bit of fun capturing these shots. I hope you enjoy them!

Day 32/365 Morning Light

Just happened to wake up a bit early and this is what I saw from my front porch.
